The new generation of Nordic Jazz! With a captivating atmosphere and gripping interplay, Tuva Halse Quintet draws you into their lyrical universe from the first note. The quintet consists of five exciting and up-and-coming musicians from the Norwegian jazz scene, known from various projects such as Bento Box Trio, Bliss Quintet and I LIKE TO SLEEP. The music is based on violinist Tuva Halse's compositions, which in their melodious character are drawn from the melancholic and sentimental to the intense and insistent. The result is a distinctive and expressive expression in a universe full of contrasts. The debut album “Two” was released in October 2023 on Jazzland Recordings, and has later received recognition both nationally and internationally, including several great reviews.
Tuva Halse (b. 1999) is an improvising violinist and composer from Molde, Norway. She has already played at several of the main jazz stages in Norway with her own and others' projects, including names such as Mathias Eick, Mats Eilertsen, Tord Gustavsen and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, in addition to contributing to a number of releases in different genres. With a background as a classical violinist, she creates music at the intersection between Nordic jazz and classical art music.
In May 2024 she was awarded the NTNU ambassador price during Trondheim Jazzfestival, commended for “a rare courageous sensitivity in tone and way of playing”. Later that year, she received the #huninvesterer grant from DNB and Kongsberg Jazz Festival, which provides the opportunity for a commissioned work that premiere at the festival in 2025 with Håkon Kornstad as special guest with the Quintet. Previously referred to as a "down-to-earth, sneaker-wearing master violinist" (Audun Vinger, Jazz i Norge), she has made a name for herself both through her presence on stage as well as her melodic compositions.
